InCompletion 31/31 #SOL2024

I made a commitment to write for 31 days and now, on this 31st day, I wanted to look back at the titles, topics, and forms of the writing that I’ve completed in this March Challenge.

In his book, The Creative Act: A Way of Being, Rick Rubin refers to a phase of the creative act as “Completion”. He says, “we leave behind discovery and building…(but) the Completion phase isn’t a clear line you cross in a forward journey…you may realize there’s more to be done. A revision, an addition, a deletion, or some other change may be called for.” (191-192)

This morning, I hastily made a spreadsheet and tried some vague categories, inserted some charts to see if I could spot trends, gaps, and needs for change. There is a lot that I did and a lot that I did not do; I can see a need for revision and change.

But looking at the comments, the continued support (despite the problems created by JetPack – dropped comments, dropped and deleted posts, lots of dropping…) of other writers in the Challenge, I’m so pleased to have been a part of this. Because it’s more than just the writing for oneself – it is the writing in community that makes all the difference. As incomplete as this is, this is now complete.

Thank you to all at Two Writing Teachers for making this space available, welcoming, supportive, and allowing us to continue the creative act.

  1. Okay, I was planning to do a reflection post today, and this is a brilliant way to approach it. I’m going to combine this with what I already planned. Thank you for the idea!

I’m curious, though: what are the places you see for revision and change, if you don’t mind sharing?

  2. Clever title! Thanks for joining me in this writing ✍🏼 challenge. I like your creative approach to reflection. So sorry you had trouble with dropped comments and other tech issues. I like your goal of playing with new forms and weaving in humor. Who are the writers that make you laugh?
